Selling 'The Reunion'

Updated: Jul 6, 2023

An exciting day at Galerie Elan!

There is nothing more gratifying than selling one of my works, especially when I had a direct involvement with the sale. This happened recently, during one of my shifts at The Galerie Elan.

I greeted a woman as she entered the gallery. When I offered assistance, she mentioned one painting that she was interested in was titled ‘The Reunion’. She was renovating her condo and the painting was just right for her plans.

‘The Reunion’ is one of my pieces.

The Reunion

“I can certainly help you with that one,” I said.

‘The Reunion’ is available as a giclée, not an original piece, as the original sold earlier in the year. A giclée (pronounced "zhee-clay") is a fine art print created using a specialized high-resolution inkjet printer. The word giclée is derived from the French word gicleur, which means "to spray" or "to squirt." Giclée prints are typically made on high-quality paper or canvas, and they can be used to reproduce both digital and analog artworks. Additionally, the image capture of the original and subsequent detailed comparison between the captured image and original are professionally reviewed and adjusted for color accuracy. The customer was concerned about how the inks used for the giclée would compare to the coloring in the original painting.

This is a valid concern. Although, giclée printers use high quality, specialized inks and printers that are specifically designed for fine art printing of giclées, production can vary from printer to printer, and it is possible to end up with subtle variations in color. The customer was smart to consider this.

Providentially, I was there to help address her concerns. I have some printed items for sale at the Galerie Elan. I showed her the prints of my “Sail Away” diptych below and had her compare the prints to the original piece on display.

This put her at ease and she agreed to make the purchase. Yay!

This piece is a favorite of many visitors and my fellow artists. The technique employed for the Reunion was a segue into a new artistic approach that I plan to use in future work. The Reunion is still available as a giclée, but I will only offer three more for now. However, that decision is not set in stone.
